1、从人物身份和职业着眼。
文章中人物职业不同，身份不一，从这里着眼，“名字”便有着落：黄记者、李司机、赵主任、孙经理等等，这是带姓氏的名称；村长、妇联主任、工程师、保安、网管、白衣天使、抗疫英雄等等，这是不带姓氏的名称。
2、从人物辈分排行和性别着眼。
此法也可以分为带姓氏和不带姓氏两种。前者如，刘大娘、李公公、戴婶、丰哥、朱二奶奶；后者如，二舅、小叔、三姑、新媳妇儿等等。此类人名一用，对其相关方面的介绍也可以从简。
3、从人物爱好、习惯、气质和性格特征着眼。
例如：小懒虫、甜丫头、老顽固、后浪、噪音君、游戏王子，等。这类典型的名称能使人物形象更加生动，文章色彩也更加鲜明；也可以从一些不能理解其做法的人的角度，以“傻帽大爷”为名，让其名其行相悖，均可使文章主旨更加突出，内容更具感人魅力。
4、从人物肖像特征着眼。
结合人物标志性的肖像特征，选出其最有代表性的一点而拟出诨名，常常是肖像描写的神来之笔。这样的诨名，带姓不带姓均可。
